Overview
In this specialized tour, you will visit a few of remaining villages in the traditional Sumba that still preserve the ancient cultural practices.
Meet the village ladies who can teach you the process of weaving ikat cloths, greet the smiley kids who’re eager to play with you, count how many megalithic tombs you can find scattered around the village, imagine the tense of tribal war when you visit the field where the blood-spilled Pasola festival usually takes place.

Tour Plan
Day 1: Ratenggaro Village - Wainyapu Village - Pero Beach Sunset
Upon arrival at the airport of Tambolaka in Waitabula, meet and greet with your guide and we will begin the journey. But before start, we will firstly have a lunch in one of local restaurant.
Then we go to Ratenggaro village in Kodi area. Here we will see the traditional high rooftops houses (actually the highest rooftops in whole Sumba) made all by hand and traditionally. This village is the only one of a few traditional villages left in the area, and while the village is just a compound of some houses, each house can accommodate up to 50 family members.
On the harvesting season, however, most of the villagers will stay in their field to work and only leave the elders and child in the village. Then we go to the next village, Wainyapu Village. Here you will visit the Pasola field, the festival that Sumba has which held every year in February / March. Our last visit will be Pero beach for watching the spectacular sunset view.

Day 2: Daily Activities In Toda Village - Lapopu Waterfall - Praijing Village
Wake up in the morning, then have breakfast. After that go to the Toda Village to experience the daily activities of Sumbanese people, such as go garden to cut the grass and give it to the pets (horses, cows, and pigs).
You also can enjoy the horse ride together with them. They will also show you how the Sumba boxing is. In the late afternoon we will continuing our trip to West Sumba, and visit Lapopu Waterfall after lunch. After a drive through the endless hilly and green landscape of Sumba, you will arrive nearby the waterfall.
To visit the waterfall, you will need to do a small hike of approximately 15 minutes and cross a bamboo bridge to get there. There is a nice spot to sit down where you can watch the water find its way down the hill.
Our trip continues to the village Praijing, a traditional village uphill surrounded by lots of greenery. This is one of the few villages where we can actually have a beautiful overview of the entire village and draw an idea how the village is conducted. Take some time to walk around the village; the elders occupy most of the houses, some of them weaving the ikat (Sumbanese cloth) where you can learn to do it, and kids are always around to share their smiles. Don’t forget to share candies!

Day 3: Waigali & Praigoli Village - Galubakul Village - Wairinding Hill Sunset
After breakfast and check out, we will visit another village in West Sumba. First to Praigoli Village, to see the Kajiwa Stone and Pasola Field. And not far from Praigoli village, we will visit Waigali village where located on top of a hill where we can enjoy a spectacular view from here.
Here we can see the Andung (Scull Tree). Next we will go to Galubakul Village, where you can find the Sumba’s largest tomb. Our trip continuing to East Sumba, on the way we will make a stop in Wairinding Hill for watching the sunset.

Day 4: Natural Dye Traditional Textil Workshop - Walakiri Beach Sunset
After breakfast, we will go to the village where you can learn about Tenun Ikat, the traditional cloth of Sumba. Ikat is a technique of reserve dyeing. Before weaving, yarn bundles are strethed on a frame and the pattern is produced by tying into the threads, binding the bundles in the necessary places with dye-resistant fiber.
The pattern of ikat is more about the beauty of their human, animal, and supernatural motif. Before weaving, you have to coloring the threads, and some of them use the natural coloring.
You may learn in this village with the local to know how the process is from the beginning, and try to make it. When the time is best for sunset, we will go to Walakiri Beach to explore the beach with its beautiful mangroves. Don’t hesitate and walk towards the small and magical trees which are growing inside the water.

Day 5: Sunrise Trekking Tenau Hill - Out Waingapu Airport
We will wake up earlier today for visiting Tenau Hill, where you can find the best view of sunrise. You can trekking a bit arround the hill to find the best spot to enjoy the moment. After that back to hotel for breakfast, and depend on your flight schedule, the driver will pick you up and escort you to Waingapu Airport.
